India Blooms News Service

Ballia, Jan 10 (IBNS): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on
Tuesday attacked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and said that
she has never connected to the people of the state.

"Did you ever see Mayawati visiting any village i the last five years?
Did you ever see her dining with a family in the village? She has
never connected with the people in the state," Gandhi said while
addressing a gathering at Uttar Pradesh's Ballia area.

Gandhi said that Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has failed
to develop the state during her tenure and she will not be able to
bring any development in the coming years as well.

He urged the people of Uttar Pradesh to vote for Congress in the
upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

"We promise to change Uttar Pradesh," he said.

In past couple of months Gandhi campaigned in several parts of
politically charged Uttar Pradesh to regain the presence of Congress
in the north Indian state.

Earlier, the Election Commission of India (ECI), which announced to
reschedule the poll dates in Uttar Pradesh owing to logistical problem
and a festival, on Monday confirmed that the balloting for 60
constituencies scheduled on Feb 4 would now be held on March 3.

The election schedule for other phases of UP Assembly Election shall
remain the same, except the date of counting, which shall now be Mar
6.

The Commission has further decided that the counting of votes in the
other four states- Manipur, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab- will be held
along with Uttar Pradesh on Mar 6 instead of Mar 4.

Polling for the seven-phase elections in UP was to begin on Feb 4, but
owing to the date of 'Barawafat' festival it was rescheduled.

The rescheduled date apart, the other six phases of UP polls would be
held on Feb 8, Feb 11, Feb 15, Feb 19, Feb 23 and Feb 28.
