BJP accuses Mayawati, her kin of 'hiding' money in companies

NEW DELHI: Continuing its attack on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister
Mayawati over corruption issue, BJP today accused the BSP supremo and
her kin of "hiding" money amassed through Noida land allotments in
more than 100 companies.

BJP leaders Kalraj Mishra and Kirit Somaiya claimed, in a press
conference, that the party has found over 125 companies connected with
Mayawati's "friends and family".

These entities have been used to "hide" money amassed through "scams"
and funds collected through land allotments made in Noida, they
alleged.

They also alleged that Congress was protecting Mayawati despite having
evidence against the BSP chief.

"In fact, both the parties are defending each other in their
scams...the government of India has all the documentary evidences and
it should take action," Somaiya said.

He said a letter written by the Enforcement Directorate to Noida
Authority was proof that the Centre was aware of the goings-on in
Uttar Pradesh.

The party also released a list of 26 companies, in which, it claimed,
Mayawati's brother Anand Kumar and his wife Vichitralata have stakes.
Earlier, it had released a list of 25 such entities.

"We will give details of the entities to the ten main investigative
agencies like ED and CBI seeking action, besides handing over a
memorandum to the UP Governor. If no action is taken, we will be
forced to move court," Somaiya said.

The BJP leaders claimed that they have personally checked two
addresses in which as many companies are registered and found them to
be fake.

[ZESTCaste] No admission for children

No admission for children
indianexpress Express News Service , The New Indian Express

MADURAI: In what reminds one of 20th century apartheid set up,
children of Dalit families in Kurayur near Kalligudi in Madurai
district have been barred from admissions to the Government Middle
School in the village by the dominant Hindu Caste.

The Dalit children have been forced to study at a missionary-run
government-aided school on the border of the village, which has poor
facilities.Located five km from the Kalligudi police station in the
Thirumangalam taluk, Kurayur has witnessed caste clashes over the
decades.

While most caste Hindu students study in the government school at the
heart of the village, the Dalits have been forced to admit their
children at the missionary-run primary school "on their side of the
village." According to members of the Scheduled Caste community, the
set up has existed ever since the caste clashes of 1996, when a
15-year-old boy from their community was murdered. Villager elders
convened an informal meeting of the panchayat and came up with the
present 'apartheid' arrangement. When Express inspected the school
records at the village, which is a reserved panchayat for SC women, on
Thursday, it emerged that all 260 students were caste Hindus. School
officials, who have been working there since early 1990s, said they do
not recall even a single Dalit student ever studying in the
school."After the clashes of 1996, the village elders decided that
Dalits should send their children to the other school in their own
interest," a school official said.

Taunted over caste, man kills himself

December 11, 2011
DC
Hyderabad

Allegedly vexed with constants taunts regarding his community by his
in-laws, a 35-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at
Mansurabad under LB Nagar police station limits on Saturday. According
to LB Nagar police sub inspector Sai Prakash Goud, J. Pradeep Kumar
took the extreme step after frequent quarrels between him and his wife
Mohini Reddy as he was discriminated against by her and his in-laws
since he belonged to the Madiga community.

The police said that Pradeep had fallen in love with Mohini and
married her seven years ago. The cops quoted his parents saying that
he went to the extent of changing his name and moving in with Mohini's
family after marriage. However, he was never fully welcomed by the
family and the couple had frequent fights over the issue.

Late on Friday night, after a fight with his wife, Pradeep hanged
himself from the dining room ceiling using a saree. His body was
discovered by his wife and aunt in the morning. Mohini's aunt cut off
the saree, and the body fell to the floor. Pradeep's wife, children
and aunt then left the place and went to some relative's house out of
fear, the police said. Pradeep's parents, who arrived later, raised
doubts over his death, but the post mortem report confirmed suicide.
However, the cops registered a case under Section 174 CrPc and are
investigating.
