UP polls 2012: Mayawati's Brahmin face 'to teach her a lesson'

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati is trying her
best to again lure the Brahmin voters to her side for tasting victory
in the 2012 assembly elections. But the Brahmin outfits are annoyed
with her party's actions against the members of their caste.

The All India Brahmin Federation (AIBF) has constituted 10 teams to
visit the state's 75 districts and collect the data of atrocities
committed by the BSP leaders against the Brahmins.

Federation national secretary Y. N. Sharma said at least 200 Brahmin
officers were victimised during Mayawati's four-and-a-half-year rule.

Sharma, himself was the BSP's Brahmin face in Karnataka, also
mobilised the UP Brahmins to support Mayawati's leadership. But he was
suspended as the party convener after he appeared on TV channels
without Mayawati's permission to defend her on the issue of the CM
accepting a garland of currency notes worth crores of rupees on March
17, 2010.

Warning his caste members against the BSP leader, Sharma said: "The
fact is Mayawati hates Brahmins. She hates even Satish Chandra Mishra,
apparently the party's Brahmin face. She will cut him to size after
the elections. Recently, when former family welfare minister Babu
Singh Kushwaha was involved in the NRHM scam, she axed health minister
Anant Kumar Mishra too along with him for no reason. The AIBF has
resolved to teach her a lesson."

"DIG fire services D. D. Mishra was sent to a mental facility because
he dared raise his voice against the state government's corruption.
Sultanpur's district horticulture officer Chandra Bhushan Pandey
resigned last week for failing to check corruption in his own
department. Despite his repeated letters to the CM, no action was
initiated against the corrupt anti-Brahmin officers," Sharma alleged,
adding that a meeting of the AIBF in Amritsar on November 15 had
discussed the issue of atrocities against the Brahmins in UP.

Akhil Bharatiya Brahmin Mahasabha president K. C. Pandey said: "With
Mayawati at the helm, the police have registered 1.43 lakh cases under
the SC/ ST Act in UP. Of this, 41,000 cases are against Brahmins and
we believe that the majority of these cases is false." Pandey added:
"We met in Mathura on November 12-13 to chalk out our strategy. We
have planned a rally in Ghazipur on December 25 to call upon the
voters to oppose Mayawati. We will visit villages in January and form
booth- level committees to ensure Mayawati's defeat."

More sops from CM

Chief Minister Mayawati on Tuesday laid the foundation and inaugurated
development schemes worth Rs.1,400 crore, which included Rs.276 crore
for the Bundelkhand region, on the occasion of 56th death anniversary
of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.

Addressing a gathering, Mayawati said the Opposition parties were
frustrated with the BSP's good governance.

"That is why they are trying to tarnish the image of my government,
ministers and party leaders ahead of the assembly elections," she
claimed.

She added: "The Opposition parties are also trying to derail our
movement for the Dalits just before the polls. But such moves will
ultimately benefit the BSP because the movement is based on Ambedkar's
ideology."
