Dalit girl mutilated for resisting rape in UP

KANPUR: Anger swept through a UP village after a dalit girl resisting
rape attempt had her nose, ear and a part of her arm chopped off in
Fatehpur district on Saturday.
The girl was rushed to the district hospital from where she was
referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur.
Tension prevailed in Urdauli village where police and PAC personnel
have been deployed. An FIR has been lodged with the Bindki Kotwali
police station against three youth, identified as Harishanker, Shiv Om
and Pawan.
The police arrested Harishanker and they were looking for the other
two. The relatives of the accused have reportedly fled the village
fearing revenge attack.
A relative of the girl said the victim, a student of Class XI, had
gone out along with her friend Chhaya on Saturday evening. They were
followed by the three accused.
"They pounced upon the girl and tried to rape her. When she resisted,
they tied a black dupatta on her eyes and chopped off her nose, ears
and hands with an axe. They also tried to gag her," said Chhaya. "The
three then fled threatening her with dire consequences if she told
anybody about the incident."
