CB-CID to probe into death of Dalit

Lucknow : The state government on Thursday transferred the
investigation into the mysterious death of a Dalit in Ambedkar Nagar
to CB-CID in October last year. The National Commission for Scheduled
Castes had ordered an inquiry in the matter.
The body of Virendra Kumar was found in a well near Sinhamayee village
under Kotwali police station of Akbarpur town a day after the counting
of votes during panchayat elections on October 29. After the
investigation, the police closed the case for want of evidence.
Virendra had reportedly gone near a counting centre in Ambedkar Nagar
before he went missing. he police found his body the next day.
The matter came to light after Virendra's wife met P L Punia, the
chairman of the NCSC, and reportedly alleged that Transport Minister
Ram Achal Rajbhar, who represents Akbarpur Assembly seat, had got the
case hushed up.
Punia said, "The allegation against the minister was that he is trying
to save the accused persons". He said he has already sent a team of
the commission to look into the matter.
