Behave yourselves, Maya tells her MLAs

Express News Service Posted online: Fri Feb 04 2011, 03:02 hrs
Lucknow : Chief Minister Mayawati has asked her party legislators to
be extra careful about their conduct in view of the coming assembly
elections. With just a year left for polls, even a small mistake on
their part might invite major trouble for the BSP, she has told them.

On the eve of the Assembly budget session, Mayawati held a meeting
with her MLAs on Thursday evening.

"Your small mistake can become a major political issue now. So, avoid
provocation, show good conduct and maintain patience," one of the
legislators quoted her as saying. She made it clear that they should
not damage the image of her government by their action.

Referring to her ongoing statewide tour, she told the legislators that
she will ensure punishments for officers who have failed to perform as
per the expectations of the government.

"She wanted her MLAs not to press for the posting of any officer of
their choice. She told us that officers have little role to play in
the victory of any MLA," another legislator said.

She directed them to develop good coordination with party
functionaries in their areas and ensure their presence in all sittings
of the House.

"You should not lose patience despite provocation on part of the
Opposition leaders inside the House. Remain patient and help the
government," she reportedly told the legislators.

CM's tour plan

* Chief Minister Mayawati will undertake tour of Deoria and Sant Kabir
Nagar districts on Friday, the day Budget Session begins in the state
Assembly. Sources in the government said she might leave Lucknow in
the afternoon.

On February 5, she will tour three districts — Mahamaya Nagar, Aligarh
and Mathura. "Her plan to visit Aligarh was also made today," an
official said. On February 6, she will be in Jhansi and Jalaun
districts and visit Varanasi and Chandauli on February 12.
