Chandigarh : Day after clash: CID inspector out of danger, members of
Balmiki community to amicably resolve issue
The Hisar police have registered a case against four persons belonging
to the Balmiki community for beating up CID Inspector Jagjit Singh.
He, along with another officer Raj Kumar, had gone to Suryanagar
colony on Tuesday to investigate a clash between two communities on
Monday night.

The police said one more cross-case was registered against 200 persons
on complaints of Jats and Balmikis who clashed, leaving seven persons
injured. While the police claimed the situation was under control,
local residents said the situation was still tense as the Balmikis
could be seen with lathis on the roof tops of their houses.

A rumour of Dalit houses being set on fire by Jats spread on Wednesday
morning after which a fire tender was pressed into service. The police
also intensified the patrolling in the area.

SSP Subash Yadav visited the colony and urged Balmikis not to be
misguided by anti-social elements who were trying to disrupt peace.
SSP Yadav, when contacted, said the condition of the CID inspector was
improving and the doctors had declared him out of danger. He also
visited the hospital to review the medical facilities being provided
to the inspector.

Meanwhile, a peace committee comprising 10 members of the Balmiki
community has been constituted to resolve the issue amicably. Yadav
said the members of the committee have agreed to meet on Wednesday
evening.

The SSP said police patrolling had been intensified and strict action
would be taken against anti-social elements found spreading rumours
among the two communities.
